dark entries is proud to release ‘commerce’, the third ep from san francisco-based trio inhalt, german for “content”. the group was founded in 2009, and for the purposes of this recording are matia simovich, philip winiger and steven campodonico. inhalt’s core operative strategy is of sonic fidelity and integrity rather than nostalgia. their first release was a split 12- on world unknown in 2011 followed by two eps on dark entries, a remix ep on emotional especial and a part time punks session on cleopatra. ‘commerce’ is a close examination of the self destructive tendency of the ego in relation to the allure of negativity and mass tragedy. the ep details the psychopathy of relentless thirst mandated by neo-liberalism and traverses through the adoption of social and economic technologies that strengthen domination vis a vis self enslavement to disempowerment. employing the best of both modern and vintage techniques, the four songs on the ep utilize dense production, big snares, and powerful german vocals from philip. inhalt are informed by the brooding soundtracks of john carpenter as much as the vastness and sheen of trevor horn, and set out to explore the borders between the vocal-driven pop song and the expansive dancefloor 12&#8243,,,, arrangement. the record was produced over four years at the bands own black sun loft recording studio and different fur studios. paul lavigne mastered the ep in london, england at kontrast mastering and george horn handled the vinyl eq curve at fantasy studios, berkeley. each ep is housed in a specially designed jacket by leo merz and includes a lyric sheet with english translations.

dark entries is honored to re-issue one of the greatest and most overlooked albums of the 1970s. time actor was the result of a collaboration between legendary crazy world & kingdom come visionary arthur brown and german synthesizer and ambient genius klaus schulze, recording under the pseudonym of his alter-ego richard wahnfried. richard is the name of klaus son born in 1979, and the first name of the german composer wagner. wahnfried is the name of richard wagners house, from the german -wähnen frieden fand (that his search and hopes will find peace). the album was a unique fusion of brown s eccentric musical vision and schulze s mastery of synthesis. the album was originally released in 1979 on the german innovative communication label. time actor stands out amongst schulze s massive catalog as a masterwork of avant garde new age. schulze helms the project on electronics, and guests include michael shrieve on percussion, vincent crane on keyboards, and vocalist arthur brown, who sings – or should we say, speaks – on top of it all. schulze describes the wahnfried project in the liner notes as “the collective pseudonym of an idea: time-electronic, an experiment between avantgarde and muzak: utility-music for sound-covered environment, in which a new generation grows up: richard wahnfried is this generation: music between genius and nonsense: new ideas transported by an old medium to your ear.” this newly re-mastered reissue expands the original 60 minutes of music across a double lp to help with playback and distortion experienced on original pressings. we’ve added a bonus track in the form of a cosmic 12-minute extended remix by italian producer and dj maurizio delvecchio from 1983. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. housed in a gatefold jacket with original album artwork featuring a surreal painting by german artist peter nagel plus lyrics and notes. “i wish you plenty of time” - klaus schulze

dsordne (pronounced disordine) is a project from torino, italy that evolved as group out of the electronic experimental post punk project novostj in 1987. at the core of dsordne is marco milanesio, musical engineer and co-founder of the hax record label, joined by a revolving cast of musicians. their spectrum ranged from experimental to structured electro-poetry and soundtrack like instrumental electronic music. in 1987 they released their first track on a split-single with the legendary pink dots. between 1987 and 1994 they released 6 full length albums, 3 split-eps and appeared on various cassette compilations.

we are delighted to welcome egyptology to the hands in the dark family. the parisian duo, made up of stéphane laporte (domotic) and olivier lamm have been active since the late 90s in the french post-electronica/avant-pop scene. sur les autres mondes is inspired by a publication by french astronomer lucien rudaux (1937, larousse) in which he imagined the landscapes of other planets in our solar system through scientific descriptions. partly composed for a performance at the prestigious louvre museum in paris, the album is the band’s first full length output since 2012, and we can assure you that it has been worth the wait. their sharp ear for detail and the epic worlds evoked through the album make for an auditory voyage which is as graphic as the words inked by rudaux. the duo is bringing the 70s kosmiche genre back to life in a very fresh, bold way, offering a strong shot of pure analogue sound and a fantastic, melodic approach to synth-based ambient music.

tom ellard is the creative force behind australian post-punk band severed heads. in 1982 he self-released two cassettes of solo material, “80s cheesecake” and “snappy carrion”. these cassettes document the transitional period between the early experimental severed heads’ albums “clean” and “blubberknife” before the start of something new with “since the accident”. with the advent of the then new roland tb-303 bass synthesizer, a machine synonymous with the acid house sound, tom began to write more beat driven material. the rhythms are made by a tr-808 drum machine, kawai s100f and sh-1 synthesizers, plus various televisions, radios, cassette decks and pedals. two songs from these cassettes would later appear on the b-side of the “dead eyes opened” single.

after the sublime triple 12inch re-issue of the sonar bases 4-10 album on deeptrax records, it s now time for the second installment in the sonar base transmissions series: the album dark matter . all 6 tracks were produced by frank de groodt around 2004/2005 and were only released in the inner circle, never released on vinyl. this mini lp still sounds as fresh as it was produced 13 years ago, experimental on the drums and synths. when listening to sonic discharge and velvet sky of sonar 6 , the link with drexciya is easily made. sonar base takes you further into outer space territory with the dark sounds of polygone suffering and the title track dark matter there is the clear idm feel of tracks like meet you at tower 3 on sonar 7 . dark matter is a hypothetical type of matter distinct from baryonic matter (ordinary matter such as protons and neutrons), neutrinos and dark energy. dark matter has never been directly observed, however, its existence would explain a number of otherwise puzzling astronomical observations the mini lp is limited to 400 black versions and 100 on limited edition purple marbled vinyl, pressed by deepgrooves and fully remastered by thee j johanz. you know the drill!!

nkisi loads up a four-track cartridge of blistering hardstep gabba/techno for arcola with the dark orchestra. with previous physical releases being cut across a near impossible to find whitelabel 12” for mw and contributions to co-non worldwide founder chino amobi’s paradiso (the wire magazine’s no. 1 album of 2017), the dark orchestra is set to be one of the most imperative charges from both nkisi and the non-faction yet.

fantasy life was a one-off italo disco studio project that consisted of various producers, songwriters, and vocalists from turin, italy. the line-up included lorenzo avico, maurizio camoletto and sergio bergamin. they recorded their only single ?over and over? at minirec studio in 1985 with mixing engineer gigi guerrieri. it was released that same year by thick record a sublabel of il discotto productions and became one of the most coveted italo disco 12?s. ?over and over? is a parable that describes the story of a girl growing up, comparing her life to the changes of the moon. signature linn drum and simmons drums create the driving rhythm track that hauntingly sways back and forth. the vocal version has a nearly two minute extended instrumental break in the middle of the song heightening the dramatic pace. on the b-side is a dub version with extended instrumental breaks, bass lines and occasional vocals. both songs are remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the vinyl is housed in the original jacket featuring a painting by andrea franzoso and includes a double sided postcard with lyrics and notes.

fockewulf 190 was a new wave group from milan formed in 1980 by vittorio barozzi aka victor life and dario dell aere. in 1979 the duo met outside a cinema and began a lifelong collaboration of projects: diamond dogs, ice eyes, demode boulevard and fockewulf 190, named after the model jet planes dario fanatically built. musically, the duo were inspired by the human leagues reproduction and john foxxs metamatic, while they took visual cues from the new romantics visage and ultravox. with the fockewulf 190 moniker, they created their own dark blend of italo disco and new wave, and released two singles in 1984 and recorded an album?s worth of music that eventually saw the light of day in 2010.

dark entries editions is proud to reissue ghost town the 1984 debut 12inch single by mono band from italy. the project was conceived by producer rene d herin and massimo fantinatiti aka fantenax. they teamed up with songwriter and guitarist luigi venegoni aka svengile who had previously worked with progressive and jazz-rock bands arti & mestieri and venegoni & co. as well as cosmic disco group stratosferic band. treading the lines between italo disco and the darker side of new wave, the trio crafted a mysterious sound. melancholic arpeggiators, a throbbing baseline, stuttering samples, and the classic linn drum machine run throughout the track. vocals were handled by an uncredited carlo rossi who raps about a ghost town filled with fear. when female vocalist elena sansonetti begins to softly whisper the chorus one might get goose bumps. the trio were joined in the studio by dj mike aka michele paolino of make up/mike up, dj moody, fabrice bellini of art fine and producer miceli. the song was recorded in a few days at dynamo sound studio in turin and originally released on the popular discomagic records. this reissue includes the original vocal version, backed with a longer dubbed out instrumental ?ghost version? on the b-side. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the 12inch is housed in an exact replica of the original sleeve with an astrological photo the planets orbiting the sun. each copy also includes a 2-sided postcard.

calendar crowd was the duo of alan heaton and terence tiernan who met in their hometown of widnes, cheshire as schoolboys and played together in various bands in the ‘70s. in the ‘80s they formed a 6-piece band called room for humans and recorded one single“telephone telephone / girlfriend”. when the band split and alan and terence continued as calendar crowd in a more experimental direction. their influences were wide reaching: kraftwerk, neu, cabaret voltaire, eno, pil, and joy division.

villa Åbo in the alternative solo project of swedish musician and producer jan svensson, who has been making electronic music for the better part of 30 years as the artist behind such aliases as frak, studio ss and alvars orkestra. svensson also runs legendary swedish dance and experimental music label börft, the product of a mutual appreciation for severed heads and terse tapes. as villa Åbo he released two records in 1997 on börft and remained inactive for 17 years until the dutch label bio rhythm coaxed him into revisiting the project and released a double 12&#8243,, in 2014. jan has since followed with a steady stream of 12” singles for kontra-musik, noise in my head and radio lundberg.
“magnetic moves” is villa Åbo’s debut album, originally released in an limited edition of 65 hand-numbered cassettes by funeral fog in 2016.

ima (intense molecular activity) is the duo of don hunerberg (synthesizers) and andy blinx (drums and percussion). based in new york city and active between 1979 and 1982. don, a studio sound / music engineer and musician, andy an electronic clothing designer, drummer and sound reinforcement engineer at downtown clubs like max’s kansas city, mudd club and cbgb. in between doing sessions at radio city music hall studios for groups such as ramones, richard hell, sonic youth, liquid liquid, john zorn, glenn branca and many others, ima took advantage of off hours to create their own music. as far as influences go, don’s background was in electronic music and andy’s in prog rock. to produce the songs, don used his own method of creating patterns from 2-track tape loops and then edited them together on to a 24-track recorder adding more tracks of overdubs, in a very similar way that sequencers are used today.

robert rental was the stage name of robert donnachie (1952?2000), a british pioneer of post-punk, diy, and industrial music. originally from port glasgow, scotland, he moved to the south of england with thomas leer in the late 1970s where he met glenn michael wallis. glenn was recording music with the group heute and leaving to start his solo projects nkvd and konstruktivists. both were heavily involved with throbbing gristle and the industrial records crew. in the summer of 1979, robert invited glenn to his studio in battersea to jam. robert on guitar and glenn on an edp wasp synthesizer. for each session that summer they would play for about 40 minutes, maybe longer, stoned. robert suggested they record it, many times erasing and over recording one session for the next. the music had no titles, as they were never intended to be released. on these recordings, robert enjoyed playing like robert fripp of king crimson, while glenn channeled wolfgang flur of kraftwerk. influenced by krautrock bands like can, neu!, cluster/harmonia, as well as terry riley and brian eno the duo forged a unqiue brand of industrial music. tape loops and synthesizer sounds played backward conjure dark ambient moods. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the lp is housed in a jacket that features a drawing by robert rental from glenn?s archives as well as a handwritten note from robert to glenn. each copy includes 2 photo postcards featuring a transcription of robert?s letter and liner notes from glenn wallis.
